Project Proposal Sign Off

The video explains how EPA assessors review and sign off project proposals for the Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship. Apprentices must complete a work‑based project, followed by a 6,000‑word report and presentation during the EPA. Before starting the practical work, their project title and scope must be approved by an independent endpoint assessor.

The project can address a problem, recurring issue, idea, or opportunity, and should enable apprentices to meet all required KSBs. Although the report must be written after gateway, apprentices are encouraged to complete the practical project work in the months beforehand to manage workload effectively.

The video outlines expected timelines, the structure of the project proposal template, and how apprentices should map their work to KSBs. Assessors signing off proposals must check that the apprentice has proved project is feasible, valuable to the organisation, and provides convincing coverage of all required competencies.

Before the project begins, assessors review and approve the project proposal to ensure that:

  • The project has sufficient scope and complexity.
  • The work is appropriate for EPA assessment.
  • Opportunities exist to demonstrate a broad range of KSBs.
  • The project can generate valid evidence for assessment.

This stage provides quality assurance and helps prevent projects that are either too limited or insufficiently aligned to the apprenticeship standard.

The apprentice will already have discussed potential project ideas with their employer and agreed on a suitable option that aligns with the required learning outcomes. The chosen project should also be something the company is able and comfortable to share.
