KSB Mapping & Portfolio Capture

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be continuously mapping your learning from on-programme modules and capturing potential evidence and documentation for your work-based portfolio. This process will use the provided template and will help you build a mental model of how your work aligns with the required Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviours (KSBs), all linked to your upskilling and learning activities.

Understanding the Two Key Activities

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will complete two distinct but related activities:

1. Mapping KSBs to module learning (University learning activities)

  • This is about showing where Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) are covered in your academic modules.
  • It is not graded.
  • It is used by the university to check coverage and alignment with the apprenticeship standard.

2. Collecting and curating work-based portfolio evidence (EPA requirement)

  • This is about gathering real work-based examples that demonstrate competence against the KSBs.
  • It will be assessed and graded as part of the End-Point Assessment (EPA).
  • Requires careful selection, reflection, and curation of evidence.
  • Think of it as proof of competence in practice

As you approach the End-Point Assessment (EPA), you will need to select six of your strongest portfolio items. For each item, you will create a narrative documentation that clearly links the work to the relevant KSBs for the Professional Discussion (AE2).

As part of the course validation process, we have mapped the delivery of or modules to the apprenticeship standard knowledge skills and behaviours (KSB) and we periodically refresh these as when delivery update. To help you with your mapping four you’re on the job learning (university modules) you can access the mapping document here:

Use this sheet to help you map your learning on your University Modules to KSBs: NEW DATS STANDARD 1.2 Mapping 2023

Download the on-programme and work-based EPA portfolio capture documents for your pathway and start adding potential work-based portfolio items. You should also map your off-the-job learning from your university modules throughout your apprenticeship.

When you go to EPA, you will need six strong pieces of portfolio evidence. The expectation is that you will have more than six, so you can choose the best ones to submit for the EPA assessment.
