We are pleased to welcome Ian, Solent Alumni Ben and Chris from Juniper Networks who will be offering insight into gaining work placements, getting your first job, and what it's like to work for a tech company.

Juniper Networks is a network equipment vendor headquartered in Sunnyvale, California that designs, develops, and sells network products and services worldwide. It is a global leader in Networking, Cloud, Security, and Wi-Fi products and delivers networking solutions to the world's largest cloud providers, service providers, mobile operators, banks, universities, governments, and global enterprises.

Ben Peckham

Ben graduated Solent University in 2020 with a BSc in Cyber Security Management.
During his course, he completed a placement year in industry at Juniper Networks as a Proof-Of-Concept Engineer before returning for final year studies.

After graduating he returned to Juniper Networks as an Associate Systems Engineer, specializing in Enterprise network routing, switching and security and wireless technologies. Now Ben works with retail customers across the UK and Ireland, helping them to achieve technology transformations with Juniper technologies and solutions.

Chris Howarth

Chris is a Solent University alumnus. After studying computing at "Southampton Institute" (as Solent was known in 1996), he went on to work in the public sector, building and supporting the secure infrastructure of central government sites. Chris has 30+ years working in the field of telecommunication technologies and currently specializes in service delivery & support optimization. Now a Director of Services for UK & Ireland at Juniper Networks, Chris manages a team of engineers and service managers who keep the operation of large UK Service Providers stable. Chris has 3 children, enjoys mountain biking and is an aspiring ceramic artist.”

Ian Jarrett

Ian has spent most of his 30-year career in the networking & communications industry, living and working in both the UK and Silicon Valley. Today he leads the Professional Services consulting team for Juniper in the UK and their DevOps Automation Practice in Europe. By training he is a software engineer who moved into DevOps in the mid-1990s to automate network rollouts for banks. Nowadays he is an active member of Juniper’s team on GitHub, contributing automation software to the open-source community. He has also helped to author several Juniper-related books; he holds a Patent in the US and is a Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society.
