Before an apprenticeship begins, the main training provider must conduct an initial assessment. They will assess the individual’s prior learning to establish the ‘starting point’, or baseline, for the apprentice. This informs how much of the apprenticeship training content the individual requires.
Initial Assessment
Prior to your interview apprenticeship applicants will need to complete a self assessment form this document is required to enable Solent University to undertake an assessment of the applicant’s prior experience, knowledge and skills as required by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) Apprenticeship Funding and Performance-Management rules. This form will be reviewed in conjunction with the details of the declared prior qualifications in the main application form. Where the application is successful, in accordance with ESFA requirements this document will be held as part of the Evidence Pack for the apprenticeship
The self-assessment form will need to be completed before interview and uploaded with the rest of your evidence

The admissions tutor for apprenticeships will discuss prior learning at the interview and give all the information needed to complete the form.

Once an apprentice has completed the form and created appendices of evidence this will be checked by the admissions tutor before being passed on to Student Registry where it will go to a panel who will review the evidence and the documentation offered before making their decision
